José María Fernández is Managing Partner in the Credit team and Founding Partner at Aliath Bioventures.

José has over 25 years’ experience as a financial economist, specialising in debt and capital markets. Before AltamarCAM, he was general director of the treasury at the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness and concurrently a board member at both the European Research and Investments Bank and CESCE (Spain’s export credit agency).

Previously, he worked at the financial engineering laboratory of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Boston), as a consultant in the securities markets, financial and private sector development department at the World Bank and as managing director of the debt capital markets business for Crédit Agricole corporate and research and Investments Bank (London).

He is a board member at Inbiomotion and Accure Therapeutics, a member of the investment committee of Alta Life Sciences Spain I FCR and, since 2017, a board member at the Human Immune Project – a project seeking to decode the human immune system to transform the way we diagnose, treat and prevent disease for all people.

He is a state economist and trade expert of the Spanish General Administration, holds a master’s degree in business administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a master’s of finance from the London Business School, a master’s in portfolio management from Instituto de Estudios Bursatiles and a bachelor of science degree in economics and business from CUNEF.
